KICThe KIC initiative is driven by the European Commission, by means of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). A KIC is highly coordinated, creative and excellence-driven partnership of European and international entities. The partnership brings together the endeavours of entities from the fields of education, technology, research, business and entrepreneurship in order to produce innovation models, products and services in a specific field of knowledge.
A KIC builds communities of excellence across the knowledge triangle in order to address the main social challenges facing the EU and which have a long-term horizon of 7 to 15 years, but with objectives focused on the mid- and long-term.
Each KIC is organised around a “co-location centre” or regional hotspots of excellence, each made up by partners that represent the knowledge triangle: companies, first-rate universities, leading research centres in their field and key entities. The role of each hub is to develop the KIC strategy, focusing on excellence in higher education, research and innovation.
The Campus of International Excellence of the UPV/EHU-Euskampus is actively taking part in preparing a candidature to develop a Basque Country KIC Ageing proposal, together with a large number of stakeholders that will enable the coordination of endeavours and the positioning of the Basque Country in one of the initiatives drive from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
