On 2 March, the member entities of the CEI Euskampus project (UPV/EHU, Tecnalia and the DIPC), along with Bordeaux University unveiled the SUDOEX project (Système Universitaire Orienté et Dirigé vers l’Excellence – University System for Excellence), worth an estimated €1,250,000.
This proposal is part of the Interreg IV B SUDOE (South West Europe) Operational Programme  2007-2013 , aimed at making the SUDOE zone (including Aquitaine and the Basque Country) more competitive and innovative
The SUDOEX project, submitted by the consortium and coordinated by Euskampus, seeks to consolidate an R&D&i dissemination and development Euro-regional network based on the complementary nature of two major international hubs. The strategy consists of coordinating and expanding the priority spheres of activity established in the EUSKAMPUS and IDEX Bordeaux development plans to turn them into the pillars of a knowledge Euro-region. The aim is to create a true snowball effect to benefit the whole of the SUDOE area and the EU. This goal is directly in keeping with the Lisbon Agenda that defines a global strategy to turn the EU into the most dynamic and competitive economy of the world.
The main innovation of the project lies in its double approach, academic excellence and euro-regional perspective. For the first time, in fact, two international campuses of excellence are working together and embarking on a long-term joint development to create a first-rate international campus. Two new additional features also have to be highlighted: the involvement of the private initiative and the “virtual campus”.
